The philosophy of treatment at CMC is one which recognizes that all aspects of the CMC experience impact on the student and, in this sense, the total CMC experience may be considered the "treatment". It is for this reason that we are so careful about such things as staff selection and training. At CMC we monitor not only the progress of our students, we also monitor the performance of our staff so as to maximize positive changes in our students. |

We agree with Mr. Robert Ressler, former head of the FBI Behavioral
Sciences Unit, and Dr. Stanton Samenow, chief psychologist for the
federal St. Elizabeth's Hospital in Washington, DC, that many young
people lack appropriate morals and ideals and, because of this,
they develop ways of thinking and behaving which are detrimental
to themselves and society. The treatment at CMC facilities focuses
on providing good role models and high ideals for students while
simultaneously helping them correct the thinking errors which plague
them and prevent them from reaching their goals. We believe that
all young people want to be good and productive citizens of their
society but many have not yet learned how to do that. At CMC we
show them the proper goal and teach them how to reach it. |

The responses of referral agents as well as the impression of our
caseworkers is that the majority of our students are greatly improved
when they leave our care. We also are able to report that these
improvements are shown on standardized psychological testing as
well. When pre- and post-treatment scores on the MMPI-A are compared
we find that students consistently show a significant decrease in
anger, depression, and suspiciousness, and also show clear increases
in self-esteem and moral direction. Thus, both clinical impressions
and clinical testing indicate the value of the treatment experience
at CMC facilities.
